Mat from much-branched base. Single carrot-like root, unlike most pussytoes does not make stolons. Branches prostrate, short. Basal leaves and few stem leaves linear to slightly spoon-shaped, gray with interwoven, matted hairs. Single flower head tops stem with either male flowers in small head or female flowers in head about twice as big. Flowers dull white inside large cup of dirty brown bracts, the papery tips extending beyond flowers. Grows in dry places below 6000 ft.
