Gray Sagewort

Plant erect, aromatic. Stems many, unbranched, gray to white with matted hairs. Leaves linear to elliptical, 1/2–4 in. long, covered with white matted hairs, entire to deeply divided. Flower panicle to 12 in. with short branches holding generally nodding flower heads. Flower heads include small cups densely covered with small hairs, bearing tiny flowers. Grows in dry rocky or sandy soil below 6000 ft. Var. ludoviciana has entire or shallowly lobed leaves. Var. latiloba has deeply divided leaves with narrow lobes.
