Michaux' Mugwort

Erect, lemon-scented. Stems green, many, unbranched. Leaves about 1 in. long, narrow, divided twice, often with small teeth, matted white hairs on the underside; top side hairless, green, dotted with yellow glands. Flower spikes narrow, 3–6 in. tall with nodding flower heads. Flower cup purplish, dotted with yellow glands, hairless. Grows in subalpine to alpine areas, rocky places, talus, scree, drainages, at 10,000–12,000 ft. Artemisia tilesii, mountain wormwood, does not smell of lemon, has leaves 2–6 in. long.
