Aster paucicapitatus
Olympic Aster
Compact. Several upright stems. Lowest leaves reduced, scale-like, oblong, 1–2 in. long, covered with gland-tipped hairs. Flower head large, solitary; center of disk flowers 1/2–1 in. across; ray flowers 9–13, white, about 1/2 in. long, turning pink with age. Grows on ridges and open slopes in subalpine and occasionally found on Vancouver Island.
