Stem erect. Two leaves from base, green, glandular, soft-hairy, 3–8 in. long, narrow to widely oval, pinnately lobed into wide lobes with sharp teeth pointing toward leaf tip. Flower stem with basal leaves only; single flower head with ray flowers less than 1 in. long. Grows in dry rocky soils in open sagebrush, forests. Often hybridizes with B. hookeri in Steens Mountain area.
