Rigid upright shrub with evergreen leaves. Stems freely branching; stems and branches silver-gray; young branches may be brown with fine hairs, often spine-tipped. Leaves less than 1 1/2 in., opposite, oblong to round, thick, gray-green; upper surface smooth; lower surface gray with fine hair. Flower clusters of 20–60 on branches. Flowers white, pale blue, or lavender, with short stalks. Flowers very aromatic. Grows in hot dry sites with poor soils, including serpentine, at low to mid-elevations.
