Matted Cryptantha
Small cushion, ball-shaped, about 1 in. tall, 4 times as wide. Many branches, bristly throughout. Leaves linear, less than 1/2 in. long, densely crowded, surrounding the flowers. Flowers very small, with yellow eyes, occuring singly on top of cushion in clusters. Calyx splits in a circle around seeds when mature. Grows in sandy, dry soils usually at low elevations but including Steens Mountain.
