Ascending stems clustered, stout, hollow, easily broken from root. Leaves hairless, with sharply pointed, deeply cut lobes. Inflorescence often divided, with many tightly clustered flowers. Flower purple-blue, with sharply pointed sepals pointing forward or flaring outward, and a short spur. Grows in wet streambanks, meadows, seeps, at high elevations.
