Dwarf Golden Daisy

Tuft of basal leaves, naked stems. Leaves 1–3 in. long, very narrow, covered with hairs either spreading or pressed against leaf surface. Flowers held singly above leaves, 1 in. across, 20–50 ray flowers, each about 1/2 in. long. Grows in dry open areas with sagebrush and up into subalpine zone to 6000 ft. Smaller, compact var. brevifolius, found in Wallowa Mountains, is endemic to eastern Oregon and Washington in a small area along the state border extending up to 9500 ft. Smaller, rayless var. austiniae is found from central Oregon to the south and east.
