Glacier Lily
shiny, unmarbled midgreen leaves. Leaves 4–8 in. long, less than half as wide. Stem 6–12 in. with 1 or 2 nodding bright yellow flowers. Flowers lighter-colored at base, petals strongly reflexed, anthers cream to yellow or dark red, longer than pistil. Grows in alpine or subalpine meadows, forest openings, among sagebrush, at mid to high elevations but also low elevations in Columbia River Gorge. Found blooming just after snowmelt. Similar to white-flowered E. montanum, avalanche lily, in same habitat.
