Purple-Flowered Honeysuckle
Erect shrub. Stems and leaves with fine hairs. Leaves 1–3 in. oval to round, base tapering to short petiole, tips round or sharply pointed. Flowers in pairs, without bracts, dark red, hairless or sparsely hairy, strongly 2-lipped, upper lip erect, with 4 shallow lobes, lower lip reflexed downward, 3 anthers pressed to upper lip. Berries 2, partially joined, bright red. Grows in moist places in forests, open rocky places, talus, streambanks, at high elevations.
