Small-Flowered Buttercup

Basal and lower stem leaves with 2–6 in. petioles, soft-haired, more or less round to heart-shaped, divided into 3 shallow lobes divided again, 3-toothed segments, hairs flat on surface; middle stem leaves smaller. Flowers single with stalks above large leafy bract. Flower tiny, 2–5 petals quickly falling, light to medium yellow. Seed with curved beak. Grows in moist soils, shaded woodlands, forests, beaches, disturbed places, at low to high elevations. Similar R. macounii has leaves divided into 3-lobed leaflets, seed with straight beaks.
