Mat to erect, with many stems. Stems short-haired below, glandular above. Leaves 1–2 1/2 in. long, lance-shaped, hairless. Flowers ascending; calyx glandular; petals 5, small, white, each divided into 4 lobes rounded at tips; at center 2 very small appendages with 2–4 teeth top each petal. Similar male, female flowers on separate plants. Grows in moist forests, woodlands, streambanks, moist meadows, at mid- to high elevations.
