Golden-Eyed Grass

Clumps of leaves and stems. Stems flat, with extensions on the sides, taller than leaves. Leaves to 12 in., dull green, turning black when dead. Flowers yellow with brown markings, clustered at stem top, opening in first few hours of sunlight, withering later in the day. Grows in moist places near coast, to subalpine.
