Stems erect, often branched. Stems carry most of the leaves, with few or no basal leaves. Leaf divided into 3 egg-shaped, toothed leaflets; bristle-tipped stipules at base of petioles. Flowers in oval head reflex shortly after opening, making head mop-like. Flowers white or pink surrounded by a longer pink to purple calyx with ragged sharp-pointed bristles. Grows in grasslands, scrub, at low to mid elevations. Found in Columbia River Gorge and Siskiyou Mountains.
