Erect stems in small cluster from woody base, white with woolly branched hairs. Leaves to 3/4 in. long, linear to lance-shaped, entire or 3-lobed. Flower spike 1–3 in. tall. Bracts pinkish or reddish purple, with 3 rounded lobes. Calyx deeply divided, upper 1/2 of flower deep red, with pistil extended outward. Rare. Grows on decomposed granite, marble, at high elevations in Siskiyou Mountains.
