Monument Plant

Stout erect plant with whorls of leaves. Stem single, large. Leaves 3–5 in basal whorl, each 6 in. wide, 20 in. long, with rounded tips. Leaves on stem become smaller, with pointed tips. Flowers in spike with short stalks are above leaves, becoming dense as they advance upward. Flowers light greenish white with purple dots, 2 fringed glands on each petal with several long hairs at base. Grows in moist mountain meadows, slopes, at mid to alpine elevations.
