Purple Peavine
Stems erect to sprawling, angled but not winged. Leaves with 4–8 opposite, oval to widely oval, 1/2–1 1/2 in. leaflets; vein can be unbranched or branched, tendril can be straight or coiled. Flowers 2–4, clustered, pink, red-purple, or white, 1/2–1 in. long; calyx tube longer than lobes. Grows in mixed forests, clearings, at 1400–7000 ft. Subsp. nevadensis flowers are pinkish to reddish purple, tendril not branched; grows west of Cascade Mountain Range. Subsp. cusickii flowers are white with pink veins, tendril not branched; grows east of Cascade Mountain Range.
