Side-Flowered Mitrewort

Tuft of leaves, erect stems. Leaves nearly round, lobed, round-toothed, slightly hairy on both sides. Leafless stems to 20 in. hold tiny flowers on one side, opening from bottom to top. Flowers whitish, may be tinted purple, narrow petals divided into 3 slender segments. Grows in bogs, wet places in shady woodlands, at high elevations. One-sided flower arrangement in this species is stronger than the otherwise similar M. trifida.
