Stem ascending. Leaves 8–15 in., entire, curved upward or horizontal. Flowers in umbel with stalks curved upward. Flower yellow to straw-colored, with dark stripe on each lobe; tube shorter than lobes that open wide or slightly reflex; 3 large straight or inward-curved appendages in center surround blue or sometimes yellow anthers. Grows in sandy, gravelly soils at forest edges from coast to 9000 ft.
