Stem erect. Leaves mostly basal, 8–20 in. long, less than 1/2 in. wide, short, edged with stiff hairs. Inflorescence is a branched cluster at top; flowers on main stem bisexual; petals white, unequal, with 3 outer petals shorter than 3 inner, all oval with pointed tips; stamens longer than petals. Flowers on side branches usually male, with stamens only. Grows in dry forests, sagebrush, at mid- to high elevations. Poisonous.
