Erect, slender, with many branches, lower branches nearly leafless. Leaves many, clustered at stem tops, linear to oval, entire. Flowers sessile, above leaves, 4 yellow petals fading to red with age. Grows in sandy soils, where wet in spring, with sagebrush, juniper, at low to high elevations.
