Upright, sticky below flower head, entire plant turning black as it dies. Stems clustered, glistening with glands. Leaves oval to lance-shaped, divided into 3–5 lobes; leaves from midstem up to 1/8 in. wide. Flowers very small, yellowish green to green with purple edges, hidden by dull yellow to whitish 3- to 5-lobed bracts. Grows in alpine meadows and rocky slopes.
