Shaggy Daisy

Cluster of stems, somewhat thick at base, divided top with 1 to several flower heads, stiff dense hairs covering entire plant. Basal leaves many, erect, lance-shaped, to about 3 in. long; stem leaves few, gradually decreasing in size. Flower heads with 50–100 blue, pink, or white reflexed ray flowers and 1/4 in. center of yellow disk flowers. Grows in open places in foothills, valleys, and often among sagebrush. The common name refers to the dense, stiff hairs that give a disheveled appearance.
