Mat 4–30 in. across. Stems many-branched, leafy, with tips pointed upward. Leaves egg-shaped, fleshy, sessile, in 3–10 pairs. Flowers single or clustered at tops of short stalks from leaf axils. Sepals form calyx, with lobes often longer than 5 white petals, 10 stamens, 3 styles. Grows on sandy or rocky ocean beaches.
