Leatherleaf Saxifrage
Erect, unbranched flowering stems, basal rosette. Leaves 1–4 in. long, oblong, round-toothed, leathery, evergreen, deep green above, lighter green beneath. Flower stems reddish, 8–16 in., topped with clusters of white flowers in red calyxes, aging to bright red seed heads (most often seen this way, as pictured). Grows in streambanks, mossy seeps, meadows, in subalpine and alpine.
