Prostrate to upright from woody stems with many branches. Leaves flat, becoming twisted when older, oblong to widely oblong with pointed to rounded tip, hairless on both sides. Flowers consist of 2–3 in. clusters with leaves along upper branches. Calyx red with darker midvein, 8 stamens, style with 3 lobes. Grows in rocky slopes, gravelly places in mountains.
