Stems ascending from basal tuft. Stems and leaves covered with cobweb-like hairs and some glands when young, becoming shiny. Basal leaves broadly oblong to 2 1/2 in. long, toothed; stem leaves smaller. Somewhat nodding, usually solitary flower head with a cup of pale hairy-tipped bracts and 1/3–2/3 in. long yellow rays. Grows on talus slopes in alpine.
