Olympic Cut-Leaf Synthyris
Erect stem with spikes of deep blue flowers. Plant coated with soft white hairs. Leaves pinnately divided, 9–15 segments cut again into lance-shaped to linear, toothed lobes. Flower stem leafless, longer than leaves, dense spike of flowers 1/2–2 in. long. Flowers are short slightly bent tubes with 4 lobes, upper lobes somewhat hood-shaped, 2 stamens extending outward. Grows in gravelly alpine summits in Olympic Mountains, where it is at risk from mountain goats.
